A special-edition Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible serve as the official pace car of the 2011 Indianapolis 500. Chevrolet and Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials made the announcement at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale classic auto auction, where a bidder will have the opportunity to purchase the first of 50 Indianapolis 500 Festival Committee cars.

The 2011 Camaro Convertible is the 22nd Chevrolet chosen to pace "The Greatest Spectacle In Racing®" and the seventh Camaro. Adding to the rich heritage is the fact that 2011 will mark the 100th anniversary of the first Indianapolis 500, as well as the centennial year of Chevrolet.

The Chevrolet donate full proceeds of the auction to the David Foster Foundation, a charity devoted to supporting families with children in need of life-saving organ transplants. David Foster, the 15-time Grammy-winning music producer and songwriter, founded the organization in his native Canada.

The pace car, along with the matching festival cars, features a Summit White exterior accented with orange stripes and door graphics. The interior is trimmed in orange leather, including front seat headrests embossed with the Indy 500 logo, along with white door panels and instrument panel trim. The instrument panel trim features extensions of the orange exterior stripes.

The color combination is similar to the design used on the 1969 Camaro Indy pace car - replicas of which have become among the most popular Camaros in the collector world.

The Pace car details
Equipped with a 400-horsepower (298 kW) V-8 engine and six-speed automatic transmission, the actual pace car for the race requires no performance modifications to perform its duty in front of the racing field.

The Festival Committees cars will be SS convertible models fitted with the 2SS equipment package, offering the following standard features:
  •     Four-wheel disc brakes with Brembo four-piston calipers and hydraulic assist
  •     StabiliTrak electronic stability control
  •     Competitive/sport mode that enhances on-track performance
  •     Performance Launch Control (with the manual transmission) that optimizes hard-acceleration launches for quicker, more consistent performance
  •     Twenty-inch polished aluminum wheels and performance tires
  •     Head-up instrument display
  •     Center console with auxiliary gauge package.

With the 2SS equipment, the cars feature the RS package, which includes HID headlamps and unique tail lamps.

Convertible refinement

The Camaro Convertible delivers coupe-like driving dynamics, with the unmatched fun of open air driving. The Convertible model contains an enhanced structure designed to eliminate the traditional compromises of open cars, such as cowl or steering wheel shake. The goal is a convertible that drives like the coupe. All the powertrain and suspension elements of the existing Camaro Coupe carry over unchanged in the convertible. The top has a smooth, tailored fit, with acoustical foam in the headliner that helps deliver a quiet ride with the top up.

The already-stiff body structure to eliminate common convertible maladies of cowl and steering wheel shake. Like:
  •     A tower-to-tower brace under the hood
  •     A transmission support reinforcement brace
  •     Underbody tunnel brace
  •     Front and rear underbody "V" braces.

The power-folding top retracts in about 20 seconds. It is built in partnership with the same manufacturer as the Corvette convertible top, and operates in a similar manner. That means it folds in a simple "Z" pattern and latches with a single, convenient handle located at the center of the windshield header. Other convertible models in this segment still offer convertible tops with dual latches, forcing drivers into two-hand operations reaching across the car.

The regular-production versions of the 2011 Camaro Convertible will begin arriving in Chevrolet dealerships in February 2011, opening a new chapter in the Camaro's ongoing 21st century rebirth. Even before the introduction of a convertible model, Camaro ended 2010 as the sales leader in its class in the United States for the first time since 1985.

Chevrolet's pace car heritage

Louis Chevrolet, who founded the brand with William "Billy" Durant in 1911, was a racer, mechanic and pioneering engineer. He raced in the early years of the Indianapolis 500, which also started in 1911, and served a luminary of the event in the years after he retired his racing helmet. That included driving the official Indianapolis pace car, which was developed by Indy 500 founder Carl Fisher, who believed a rolling start was safer than a standing start. The first Indianapolis 500 featured a pace car driven by Fisher.

The first Chevrolet selected as the Indianapolis 500 pace car was the 1948 Fleetmaster Six. The brand would go on to lead the racing pack more than any other manufacturer.

A special edition of the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible will be showcased in the annual Neiman Marcus "Christmas Book," the luxury retailer announced.

Only 100 special edition convertibles will be built, each offering luxury appointments inspired by Neiman Marcus combined with the legendary performance of the Camaro SS. This is the 84th edition of the luxury retailer's catalog of ultimate holiday gifts. Neiman Marcus debuted the Christmas Book and the special edition Chevrolet Camaro Convertible at its flagship store in Dallas.

"Neiman Marcus provides a great platform to showcase the new Camaro Convertible," said Tom Peters, Chevrolet Design director. "And, it enabled us to create a special edition car that combines the powerful design and performance of the new Camaro with an element of exclusivity, craftsmanship and customized luxury."

The Neiman Marcus Edition is defined by its exclusive Deep Bordeaux exterior color, accented by subtle, "ghosted" rally stripes.

"The tri-coat, metallic paint shifts in response to natural light," said Peters. "In low light, it appears almost black with a touch of deep violet. In sunlight, a little bit of red and burgundy appear."

The Deep Bordeaux color is complimented by a color-matched fabric top and windshield frame finished in matte silver, both also exclusive to the Neiman Marcus edition.

The interior of the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Neiman Marcus Edition features exclusive leather interior appointments, including amber-colored leather seating surfaces offset by black leather side panels and red stitching. Red accents also appear on the center console, steering wheel and shift knob. The Deep Bordeaux color from the exterior is brought inside the car, appearing on the dash and door panels.

The Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Neiman Marcus has a retail price of $75,000, and will be ready for delivery in the spring of 2011. Reservations for one of these limited-edition cars will be accepted beginning at noon, EDT, on October 19, 2010.

All Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Neiman Marcus will be equipped with a 6.2-liter, V-8 engine, When paired with six-speed manual transmission, the engine delivers 426 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque; with the six-speed automatic, the engine delivers 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque.

The Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Neiman Marcus also has exclusive, 21-inch, polished aluminum wheels, wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero ultra-high performance tires. Other features include Brembo disc brakes, LED halo-ring headlamps, Bluetooth connectivity, rear parking assist, and a 245-watt, Boston Acoustics sound system.

The segment-leading Chevrolet Camaro opens a new chapter as the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible premieres at the 2010 Los Angeles International Auto Show. The new convertible begins production in January and goes on sale in February 2011. It includes an enhanced body structure and well-tailored top mechanism - a combination designed to deliver sports coupe-like driving fun and precise quality.

The convertible  model configurations as the Camaro coupe. The standard model  have a 312-horsepower direct injection V-6 engine delivering 29 mpg highway. The SS model will feature the 6.2L V-8 engine producing 426 horsepower. A six-speed manual transmission will be standard, with an optional six-speed automatic.

Camaro seized leadership in U.S. sales in its segment with the original coupe model that launched in spring 2009 as a 2010 model. The right to purchase one of the first convertibles was recently sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction for $205,000, with all proceeds donated to charity. The 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Neiman Marcus Edition, a group of 100 exclusive cars with custom-designed elements and priced at $75,000 each, sold out in only three minutes.

The Chevrolet Camaro convertible delivers great refinement, along with uncompromising, coupe-like driving dynamics. Its enhanced body structure helps prevent cowl or steering wheel shake, for a strong, confident feel in all driving conditions. The top has a smooth, tailored fit, with acoustical foam in the headliner that helps deliver a quiet ride with the top up.

The Chevrolet Camaro convertible is offered in 1LT/2LT (V-6) and 1SS/2SS (V-8) trim packages and priced from $30,000 MSRP (including $850 destination). Nine production exterior colors are available, with tops offered in black or tan. Rear parking assist is standard on all convertible models.

Strong structure
The Camaro's architecture was designed to accommodate a convertible model, which means customers enjoy the fun of top-down cruising with coupe-like driving dynamics. Four strategic reinforcements enhance the already-stiff body structure to eliminate common convertible maladies of cowl and steering wheel shake.

The result is a convertible that preserves nearly all the acceleration, road-holding and performance capabilities of the Camaro coupe.
The safety structural reinforcements are designed to improve noise and vibration characteristics, while also contributing to the elimination of cowl/steering wheel shake. They include a hydrofromed tube in the A-pillars, an inner reinforcement bracket in the windshield header, a reinforced front hinge pillar and reinforcements inside the rockers.

Exceptional top refinement
The designers and the engineers sought to eliminate the common appearance of convertible top support ribs and they succeeded, using composite knuckles rather than aluminum ones, as well as extending the top material below the belt line and revising the top's stitch lines. The result is a top that has a smooth, taut and carefully tailored appearance that also retains the sleek roofline of the coupe.

The power-folding top retracts in about 20 seconds. It is built in partnership with the same manufacturer as the Corvette convertible top, and operates in a similar manner. That means it folds in a simple "Z" pattern and latches with a single, convenient handle located at the center of the windshield header. Other convertible models in this segment still offer convertible tops with dual latches, forcing drivers into two-hand operations reaching across the car.

Once the latch is turned to the open position, the push of a single button lowers the windows and activates the top. The car doesn't have to be parked for the top to be activated, allowing for spur-of-the-moment lowering while stopped at a stoplight.
The top is made of thick, durable canvas and it features acoustical headliner material that provides a quiet, coupe-like ride when the top is up. It also incorporates a glass rear window and rear window defogger.
A folding, one-piece tonneau cover is standard on 2LT and 2SS models and optional on 1LT/1SS. It covers the folded top for a finished appearance. An accessory windscreen is available from Chevrolet dealers. It installs behind the front seats to limit wind buffeting when driving with the top down.

The details
A myriad of fine details distinguish Camaro convertible models:
Because the combined OnStar/XM/AM-FM radio antenna is mounted on the roof of coupe models, it had to be relocated on the convertible. On RS-equipped LT models and SS models, which include a rear spoiler, a small "shark fin" OnStar/XM antenna is mounted on the deck lid, while the AM/FM radio antenna is hidden inside the rear spoiler. This patent-pending design creates a sleeker appearance. For LT models without a rear spoiler (without the RS package), the combined antenna is located in the center of the deck lid.

The relocation of the trunk lock cylinder also cleans up the Chevy Camaro convertible's appearance, moving from the panel between the taillamps to a discreet area between the rear seat back cushion and driver's side interior panel. The change retains full, lockable access to the trunk, with the keyless remote fob also offering easy trunk access.
Finally, the subwoofer - either an eight-inch unit with the base sound system or a 10-inch subwoofer with the available Boston Acoustics system - is relocated from the trunk to an area between the rear seat cushions.

The Performance
Camaro LT convertible models are offered with a 3.6L direct injection (DI) V-6 that delivers more power through increased efficiency, while maintaining fuel economy and lowering emissions - including a 25-percent drop in cold-start hydrocarbon emissions. It is rated at 312 horsepower (232 kW) and 278 lb.-ft. of torque (370 Nm). Peak fuel economy with the direct injection V-6 is 29 miles per gallon on the highway.

Two 6.2L V-8 engines are offered in Camaro SS models, including the L99 on automatic-equipped vehicles and the LS3 on manual-equipped models. Both engines are derived from the LS3 that debuted on the 2008 Corvette, with an aluminum block (with cast iron cylinder liners) and aluminum cylinder heads. Horsepower for the L99 is 400 (298 kW) and torque is 410 lb.-ft. (556 Nm). The LS3 develops 426 horsepower (318 kW) and 420 lb.-ft. (569 Nm).

The L99 features the fuel-saving Active Fuel Management System, which saves fuel by shutting down half of the engine's cylinders during certain light-load driving conditions, such as highway cruising.

The Camaro models can be equipped with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. The Aisin AY6 six-speed manual is standard with the 3.6L engine, and a Hydra-Matic 6L50 six-speed automatic is optional. A Tremec TR 6060 six-speed manual is standard on the SS, and the Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic is optional.

A road-gripping ride
The new Chevrolet Aveo's sporty driving experience is a key feature that contributes to the car's appeal. It consists of an exceptionally rigid body-frame-integral structure, with the upper body and the frame engineered as a single unit, ensuring a more mass-efficient and stiffer structure. Advanced steels used on the new Aveo have considerably greater tensile strength, which improves passenger safety.

Two distinctive body styles
The new Chevrolet Aveo's external styling will bring a fresh breath of youth and sportiness to the segment. At the front end, the Aveo's large, dual-port grille with the centrally positioned bowtie immediately identify it as a Chevrolet.

Sporty sophistication inside
A high level of detail applied in the design of the Chevrolet Aveo's passenger cabin has resulted in a more upscale execution that is typically seen in higher-segment vehicles. On the same trim level, there is no difference in interior layout or styling between the hatchback and the sedan.

Efficient and fuel-saving powertrains
Fuel efficiency and enjoyable driving that creates a small environmental footprint were the main criteria guiding the design of the Chevrolet Aveo's engine lineup. The 1.6 liter gasoline engine (115 hp) gives the Aveo strong acceleration characteristics and an immediate feeling of performance during low-speed driving.

Ride & Handling
The Chevrolet Aveo delivers ride comfort and responsive handling traits that are designed to match the best in the segment. It is a car developed for global markets, but engineers tuned the Aveo specifically for the driving tastes of European customers, giving it a more athletic feel and balancing the vehicle for a broad range of driving conditions.

The Chevrolet Aveo's ride is tempered, stable and comfortable over virtually all road surfaces. It is fun to drive, while displaying vehicle dynamics usually associated with cars in higher price brackets. Moreover, various enhancements to its structural design and powertrain systems have resulted in a vehicle that is very quiet.

A tight chassis for confident road command
A wheelbase of 2525 mm, combined with wide, 1509 mm front and rear tracks, give the Chevrolet Aveo a firmly planted stance, which contribute to a balanced driving experience. The key enabler to its stability and confident road feel, however, is a very tight body-frame-integral (BFI) structure that ranks among the stiffest in the global small-car segment. Throughout the vehicle's structure, 10 percent more spot welds are used, while some of the steel selected to build the new Aveo exhibits tensile strengths of more than 1000 MPa or higher - twice as strong as the 340 to 550 MPa seen in the previous generation.

The chassis' main underbody rails run continuously from front to rear, providing great strength. A long, six-mount engine cradle contributes to lower noise levels, and smoother ride and handling dynamics. Specifically tuned engine mounts - including a hydraulic mount - are tailored to the engine's inherent torque axis, effectively disrupting the transmission of vibration and noise. This configuration also helps control the transfer of momentum, resulting in improved dynamic balance.

The rear suspension incorporates a specifically adapted compound crank (torsion beam), with a double-wall, tubular V-shape beam profile with gas-charged shock absorbers. This design combines all the advantages of a conventional torsion beam axle - minimal space requirements - with low weight and consistent camber control. Thanks to the rear suspension's compact dimensions, the 46 liter fuel tank fits between the rear wheels, enabling a lower mounting position of the seats for greater overall vehicle balance.

Sophisticated noise abatement
A stiffer structure also facilitates insulation of the powertrain and suppression of road and wind noise. Due to a drag co-efficient of 0.30, the Chevrolet Aveo has an excellent wind noise rating of 40.5 decibels at highway speed. Special damping mats, which are tailored to each specific powertrain package, act as an abatement to high-frequency noise transfer. Other measures aimed at achieving a quiet, pleasant cabin comfort level include the use of thicker glass for the windshield and windows, and the application of composite nylon baffles in various structural intrusions and of formed resin or felt blanket on the underside of the hood.

Liquid-applied sound deadening (LASD), by means of melt-on patches, is strategically applied to the interior body structure, dampening smaller section interfaces that may resonate over time. When compared to more conventional, adhesively applied damping material, these patches fit almost perfectly into the areas they are applied to. As a result, LASD achieves 10 to 40 percent greater damping performance over adhesively applied materials.

Small turn radius and advanced driving aid systems
An array of electronic systems assist the driver in maneuvering the Chevrolet Aveo through everyday traffic and more challenging driving situations. Turning diameter measures a tight 10.1 meters curb-to-curb, and less than three turns lock-to-lock, which are amongst the best in segment. In 1.2 and 1.3 liter diesel-equipped cars, a column-mounted electric power steering system (EPS) is available, which saves fuel when compared with an engine-driven power steering pump. In order to ensure precise steering action over the system's life, a wear compensator continually adjusts its interaction with the steering gear. This GM-engineered proprietary technology is an uncommon refinement in the segment.

The Chevrolet Aveo is equipped with a four-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS) that uses data input from wheel-speed sensors to reduce stopping distances. The enhanced steering control during braking maneuvers coupled with the brake assist system (BAS) allows for more efficient emergency braking. An integrated electronic brake distribution (EBD) system proportions brake pressure.
Front disc and rear drum brakes are standard, along with low-compressibility brake-pads. The front brakes feature vented single 54 or 60 mm piston steel calipers, depending on the powertrain, while at the rear, 19 or 20.6 mm piston steel cylinders are used.

Exterior Design
In line with its agile, athletic disposition, the all-new Aveo exhibits a purposeful, assertive appearance. From every angle, the redesigned Chevrolet Aveo Sedan and five-door models feature exterior forms that convey strength, stability and sportiness. A 114 mm offset between the roof rails and shoulder line, along with a track width of 1509 mm and pronounced wheel arches, ensure a confident, grounded posture. Progressive, raked body lines imply performance and suggest swift movement even when the car is stationary.

Chevrolet Aveo hatchback: coupe-like appearance with five-door functionality
While both the hatchback and the sedan speak a design language that appeals to the young and young-at-heart, their shapes differ in several important aspects. The five-door hatchback comes in a tight, two-box package, with aggressive diving feature lines and short front and rear overhangs. A sharply forward-swept shoulder line extends from the upper rear corner of the greenhouse to the front wheel arches. It runs in parallel to the lower body side scallop, accentuating the hatchback's forward-moving dynamic.

Another distinctive Chevrolet cue is the hatchback's rear door pull handles, which are almost invisible at the rear upper portion of the door behind the glass. Just as in the smaller Chevrolet Spark, the result is a three-door-like appearance with five-door functionality. The front-door handles are mold-in color black on base models and body-color-matched on LT and LTZ models. Beltline chrome moldings are also available on LTZ models.
The rear hatch glass is curved at the outboard edges to flow in unison with the vehicle's rear quarters - a level of sophistication usually found in more premium segments. A standard body-color matched spoiler for enhanced aerodynamic performance runs along the upper and side perimeter of the rear window.

An upscale, sleek presence for the Chevrolet Aveo Sedan
The Chevrolet Aveo sedan shares the hatchback's purposeful, swift look, but features a number of characteristics that contribute to a more upscale, mature appearance. It is longer and wider (4399 mm x 1735 mm) than its predecessor, while its trunk has a cargo capacity of 502 liters - a 102 liter increase over the previous model.
Both the sedan and the hatchback sport a touchpad actuator on the liftgate, contributing to a smooth, refined opening action.

Precision work: minimized body panel gaps and weld joints
The exterior fit and finish on the new Chevrolet Aveo exemplify the attention to detail apparent throughout the vehicle. Door-to-door, door-to-fender, hood-to-fender, and lamp-to-fascia gaps, for example, are all 3.5 mm or less.

The Interior Design
A small car with great performance and handling and a distinct, youthful appearance, the new Aveo also challenges competitors with a stylish, user-friendly passenger cabin. Its interior craftsmanship and refinements are designed to engage passengers with everything they see, touch or hear.

The Cockpit emphasizes performance
Sportiness and sophistication characterize the Aveo's interior arrangement and details. The all-new Aveo features Chevrolet's signature dual-cockpit theme, originally a trademark of the Corvette, one of America's most iconic sports cars. Another key design element in the cabin is the wrap-around instrument panel. It flows from the dash into the doors.

Abundant, practical and discreet storage opportunities
Both the five-door hatch and four-door sedan models of the new Chevrolet Aveo offer generous cargo space. This includes an under-seat pullout drawer and a storage compartment beneath the cargo floor (hatchback). The luggage capacity of the notchback is 502 liters, while the five-door's luggage compartment holds 290 liters with the rear seat in the upright position. When the rear seat - a 60/40 design - is folded, the hatchback has a storage capacity of 653 liters. Front-seat travel is among the best in the segment: 189 mm forward, 54 mm rearward, 28 mm up and 37 mm down.

Comfort and connectivity tailored to satisfy different needs
Tastes and comfort requirements may vary significantly and so does people's need to use modern communications and entertainment equipment. The designers of the Chevrolet Aveo have allowed for such variations. Seats are offered in three trim levels, color-coordinated according to the mid-instrument panel's color. Heated seats are optional on LT and LTZ models.

Engines & Transmissions
Today, a new car, and particularly a new entry to the small car segment, is expected to offer excellent fuel economy and a low carbon footprint, along with great performance and durability.
The Ecotec 1.2 and 1.4 liter gasoline engines make their debut in the new Aveo, while a new 1.3 liter turbo-diesel will be the first diesel in a Chevrolet's small cars in Europe. It debuts this autumn and features a high-performance common-rail fuel-injection system and advanced, electronically controlled variable geometry turbocharger with intercooler.

Fuel-efficient 1.2L and 1.4L gasoline engines
With the introduction of the newest entries of GM's family of small-displacement engines, the Chevrolet Aveo's powertrain benefits from a range of enhancements that display a strong performance and excellent expected longevity.
The engines' cylinder block is based on a hollow-frame structure, with a cast-iron bedplate. This stiff foundation ensures exceptional balance, smoothness and a quieter ride. The engineers also succeeded in raising the compression ratio to 10.5:1, thereby increasing fuel efficiency and improving emissions.

1.6 liter gasoline engine delivers greater performance
The Chevrolet Aveo's 1.6 liter gasoline engine is rated at 115 hp. Not only does 1.6 liter engine's larger displacement provide more power, it also supports a robust peak torque of 155 Nm, which gives the Aveo strong acceleration characteristics and an immediate feeling of performance during low-speed driving.

All-new transmission lineup includes six-speed automatic
A five-speed manual transmission is standard with the 1.2 and 1.4 liter gas engines, while a higher-capacity five-speed manual transmission is matched with the 1.6 liter. A GM Hydra-Matic six-speed automatic is optional on models with the 1.4 liter and the 1.6 liter engines, while a six-speed manual transmission will be offered exclusively with the 1.3 liter turbo-diesel later this year.

Safety
Ever increasing traffic volumes and limited amounts of space mean that even the most able, experienced and vigilant drivers may find themselves faced with the possibility of a collision in certain circumstances. Occupant safety is therefore an overriding objective for automotive engineers. The new Aveo is equipped with an array of safety features and sophisticated electronic control systems that are engineered to make it one of the safest vehicles in the small-car segment.

The backbone of Chevrolet Aveo's safety design is its exceptionally strong body structure provided by a body-frame-integral (BFI) structure. The BFI design is a single, welded unit consisting of full-length, high-strength frame rails and a safety cage. Welded tubular-section members are used to frame door openings and to support the roof while steel members reinforce the doors.

High-strength steels ensure stiff body structure
More than 60 percent of the body structure, as well as the six-point-mounted engine cradle, use high-strength steel. Ultra-high-strength steel is strategically integrated in the forward portion of the rockers and the center cross bar. The Aveo's engine cradle distributes energy in frontal and side impacts. It is another structural element that helps optimize occupant safety. Together with the front bumper system and the engine compartment rails, the engine cradle bars absorb the brunt of a frontal crash.

Intelligent sensor suite, six airbags standard
A set of sensors that controls the deployment of six standard airbags is mounted into Aveo's structure. The centerline of the vehicle incorporates the sensing and diagnostic module. Upon receiving data from the car's sensors, this electronic device establishes the severity of the impact and whether to deploy the airbags. In Europe, the Chevrolet Aveo features single-stage airbags for the driver and the front passenger, roof-rail airbags and side-impact airbags as standard.

The Chevrolet Sail with a choice of class-leading 1.2-liter S-TEC II and 1.4-liter S-TEC III engines. The 1.2-liter engine achieves best in class fuel economy under comprehensive road conditions of 5.7 L/100 km. It also generates power of 53.1 kW/L, enabling the Chevrolet Sail to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.9 seconds. The 1.4-liter engine offers power per liter of more than 54.3 kW/L, goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.9 seconds, and has fuel economy under 5.9 L/100 km.

The engines incorporate the Variable Geometry Intake System (VGIS), which provides smooth power delivery and torque across all engine speeds. Lightweight materials are used in the engine, transmission and body, further increasing fuel efficiency. The optimized friction coefficient in the transmission and tire rolling coefficient reduce energy loss caused by mechanical operation. In line with Shanghai GM's Drive to Green strategy, both engines meet China's Phase IV emission standard (as well as the Euro IV standard) and can be upgraded to meet China's Phase V emission standard.

Although it is classified as a small car, the Chevrolet Sail ensures a fun driving experience. Its five-speed manual transmission offers smooth gear shifting. The sporty-looking steering wheel provides pinpoint handling and easy control, while the sporty yet solid chassis provides comfort and excellent handling. The driver enjoys maximum visibility courtesy of the Chevrolet Sail's large windshield, seats designed for local users and no-blind-spot rearview mirror.

Stylish Exterior, Spacious Interior
Like other vehicles wearing the Chevrolet bowtie, the Chevrolet Sail is sporty, enjoyable to drive and offers good value for money. The Sail features Chevrolet's trademark horizontal split grille with the gold Chevrolet emblem showcased in the middle. Three muscular sidelines provide the car a three-dimensional look. A unique short-in-front, long-in-back suspension brings a sporty edge to the exterior. The streamlined shape of the vehicle adds a dynamic styling element while reducing drag, for lower fuel consumption. The Chevrolet Sail is initially available in six exterior colors: Crescent Silver, Jasmine White, Sky Blue, Coral Red, Amber Orange and Starfish Blue.

The interior is likewise unique and all Chevrolet. It includes the brand's twin-cockpit design as well as a flexible, modern central control panel equipped with a radio, CD player and MP3 interface. Designers have added a sporty touch through a double-digital screen and chrome plating. The Chevrolet Sail's adoption of a central fuel tank, a short front and rear suspension, and arch-shaped doors maximizes interior space for up to five people. There are 24 interior storage compartments for added convenience.

Advanced Safety
The Chevrolet Sail is expected to achieve four stars in China New Car Assessment Program (C-NCAP) testing. The Chevrolet Sail's safety cage construction with crumple zones offers class-leading passenger protection. A steel frame surrounds the fuel tanks, for added safety. Dual air bags in front, a retractable steering column, antilock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, child safety locks and a stronger child seat system are standard. The Chevrolet Sail also offers outstanding pedestrian protection.

Developed in China for Emerging Markets
The Chevrolet Sail was jointly developed by Shanghai GM and PATAC off a new architecture in accordance with GM's Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP) and worldwide standards for engineering and quality. The development team for the Chevrolet Sail factored in local climate and driving conditions as well as local fuel quality and Chinese driving habits in the new model's design. The vehicle's assembly followed the DTS global C-BOB (best of best) standard.

The Chevrolet Sail was put through more than 2 million kilometers of testing in extreme hot and cold weather conditions.
To ensure that parts and components meet Chevrolet's international standards in terms of quality, service, technology and price, 95 percent of components were supplied by members of GM's global supply chain, with more than 40 percent coming from industry-leading component groups or their joint ventures.

When the 2006 Corvette Z06 was introduced, it represented the closest connection to the Corvette race cars ever. The 2009 Corvette ZR1 closed the gap between racing and production even further. In 2010, Corvette continues its tradition of track-to-street technology transfer with the 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition.

The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition is another example of the expanded Corvette line-up. Five years ago, customers had the choice of a Corvette coupe or convertible. With the addition of the Z06, Grand Sport coupe and convertible and ZR1, Corvette enthusiasts now have more choices than ever.

This limited edition Z06 will boast Brembo carbon ceramic brakes with specific dark gray metallic calipers. These powerful brakes were first introduced on the ZR1. Black 20-spoke 19-inch front/20-inch rear wheels complement the car's Michelin PS2 tires. Other mechanical features include Magnetic Selective Ride Control for the first time on the Z06 and enhanced cooling. The car also features a special carbon pattern engine cover.

The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition will be available in two colors: Inferno Orange and the all-new Supersonic Blue. Black headlamps and mirrors, a ZR1-style body color spoiler, body color door handles, carbon fiber raised hood, and black carbon fiber rockers and splitter enhance the Z06's dynamic design and reduce mass and aerodynamic lift. For track events, customers can also install the Euro-styled racing numbers that come with each car.

The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition's ebony leather and suede interior is complemented by blue or orange seat stitching to match the exterior color chosen. Other features include a unique steering wheel emblem, sill plate and logoed headrest. The suede used on the steering wheel, shifter, seat inserts, armrests and doors add to the luxury of this limited edition Z06.

An optional Z07 performance package that includes the mechanical upgrades introduced on the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition can be added to a regular 2011 Z06. This package also includes Competition Gray 20-spoke wheels and all the chassis and cooling upgrades.

The CFZ Z06 carbon fiber package includes black carbon fiber rockers, splitter and roof panel with the full-width body color spoiler. It can also be purchased with or without the Z07 package on regular Z06 models.

Chevrolet made the announcement at the annual International Association of Chiefs of Police convention, in Denver, Colorado. The Chevrolet Caprice PPV will be available for ordering next year and will hit the streets in early 2011.

Unlike other police cars on the market, the Chevrolet Caprice PPV is not based on existing "civilian" passenger-car model sold in North America. It has been developed in key areas specifically for police duty, containing modern equipment and features:
    * Powerful 6.0L V-8 with fuel-saving Active Fuel Management technology and E85 capability delivers expected best-in-class 0-60 acceleration (sub six seconds) and top speed; a V-6 engine will also be offered, beginning in the 2012 model year
    * Optional front-seat-only side curtain air bags allows a full-width rear-seat barrier for greater officer safety
    * Two trunk-mounted batteries, with one of them dedicated to powering various police equipment
    * Designed for five-passenger seating, meaning the upper-center section of the dashboard can be used for equipment mounting without the concern of air bag deployment interference
    * Compatibility with in-dash touch-screen computer technology
    * Special front seats designed for the long-term comfort of officers whose car is their effective office, including space that accommodates the bulk of a typical equipment belt

Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle
The front seats are sculpted to "pocket" the equipment belt, which greatly increases the comfort for a great range of police officer sizes. The foam density of the seatback and cushion insert surfaces are designed to conform to the shape of an equipment belt's various items, too, allowing the officer's back to rest properly on the seatback surface.

Class-leading space
The Chevrolet Caprice PPV is based on GM's global rear-drive family of vehicles that also underpins the Chevy Camaro. It uses the longest wheelbase of the architecture - 118.5 inches (3,010 mm) - along with a four-wheel independent suspension that delivers responsive high-performance driving characteristics that are crucial in some police scenarios.

Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle's long wheelbase also contributes to exceptional spaciousness. Compared to the primary competition, its advantages:
    * A larger interior volume - 112 cubic feet / 3,172 liters - than the Ford Crown Victoria, including nearly 4 inches (101 mm) more rear legroom
    * The barrier between the front seat and rear seat is positioned farther rearward, allowing for full front-seat travel and greater recline for officer comfort
    * At 18 cubic feet (535 liters) free space (beyond battery located in trunk), the Caprice's trunk volume is large enough to accommodate a full-size spare tire under a flat load surface in the trunk storage area.

The Chevrolet Caprice's 6.0-liter V-8 is rated at an estimated 355 horsepower (265 kW) with an estimated 384 lb-ft of torque. It is backed by a six-speed automatic transmission that is performance-calibrated for police duty. 
The police car-specific powertrain and vehicle system features:
  •     * High-output alternator
  •     * Engine oil, transmission and power steering coolers
  •     * Standard 18-inch steel wheels with bolt-on center caps
  •     * Large, four-wheel disc brakes with heavy-duty brake pads
  •     * Heavy-duty suspension components
  •     * Police-calibrated stability control system
  •     * Driver information center in the instrument cluster with selectable speed tracking feature.

Chevrolet Caprice on patrol: A brief history
Chevrolet's history with law enforcement is almost as old as the brand itself. Police departments have used Chevy sedans as police cars for decades, ordering them with basic equipment and powerful V-8 engines - including some special engines that weren't available in regular-production models, such as the 1959 Biscayne that was offered with up to 315 horsepower.

The full-size Chevrolets joined the force in 1976. All Chevrolet Caprice police cars - including the new, 2011 model - have carried the 9C1 order code. 
Chevys on patrol:
    * 1959 - Chevy Biscayne police model capable of 135 mph with specially tuned, police-only version of the 348-cubic-inch V-8 engine
    * 1965 - The new "big-block" 396 engine is offered in Biscayne and Bel Air police cars, making them among the most powerful on patrol; a 427 V-8 was added in 1966
    * 1976 - The 9C1 order code is given for the first time to a full-size Chevy police car package. It carries the Impala name.
    * 1977 - The full-size Chevy is downsized. The 9C1 police package is retained, as is the Impala name.
    * 1986 - The Caprice name replaces Impala, as the car is updated for the mid- and late-1980s - including the option of a powerful, 5.7-liter small-block V-8.
    * 1991 - A new-generation Caprice is launched, with the 9C1 police car still on the beat.
    * 1994 - The 260-horsepower (194 Nm) LT1 V-8 engine is offered in the Caprice 9C1, making it one of the fastest full-size police cars ever offered.
    * 1996 - Caprice police car production ends, as GM's full-size, body-on-frame car architecture is discontinued.
    * 2011 - The Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle returns to active duty.

The Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport combines the Corvette's LS3-based powertrain with unique, wide-body styling and a racing-bred suspension for a distinctive model that delivers a great balance of road and race track performance. It is offered in both coupe and convertible body styles, with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. The LS3 6.2L engine is rated at 430 horsepower (321 kW) and 424 lb.-ft. of torque (575 Nm) with the standard exhaust system. An optional two-mode exhaust system elevates the power ratings to 436 horses (325 kW) and 428 lb.-ft. (580 Nm).

The Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport replaces the Corvette's previous Z51 package and brings a greater degree of handling performance, with wider wheels and tires; revised shock, stabilizer bar and spring specifications; and specific gearing. The equipment enables cornering capability of 1.0 g, as well as a 0.2-second improvement in 0-60 acceleration vs. standard LS3-powered models.

Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport coupe models equipped with the manual transmission are uniquely outfitted for race track competition, too, with a dry-sump oiling system, differential cooler and a rear-mounted battery.

The Grand Sport history
The original Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport was a promising idea that led to the production of five special prototypes in 1963. The project was later shelved, following GM's agreement to stay out of manufacturer-backed motorsports.

The five prototypes were based on the styling of the 1963 Corvette and were hand-assembled under Duntov's watchful eye. But while they looked like production models, the prototypes were purpose-built race cars that shared little with their assembly-line cousins. Duntov also oversaw the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport engine program that featured a special, 377-cubic-inch small-block V-8 with side-draft carburetors.

The all-new 2010 Chevrolet Equinox is a compact crossover that blends distinctive design with outstanding efficiency.  2.4L direct injection engine helps the Chevrolet Equinox deliver expected best-in-segment estimated highway fuel economy of 30 mpg (EPA certification pending) - a 25-percent improvement over the previous model. Chevrolet expects nearly two-thirds of customers will choose the efficient, 2.4L engine.

Its exterior design inspiration from the Chevrolet Malibu sedan and Traverse crossover; and like those vehicles, the new Equinox complements its styling with attention to detail and unexpected features, according to Ed Peper, GM North America vice president, Chevrolet.

Vehicle highlights:
  • New 2.4L Ecotec direct injected I-4 engine estimated at 182 horsepower (135 kW), which delivers an estimated 30 mpg highway, 21 mpg city (EPA certification pending)
  • New 3.0L DOHC direct injected V-6 engine estimated at 255 horsepower (190 kW), which delivers an estimated 25 mpg highway, 18 mpg city (EPA certification pending)
  • Driving range of more than 500 miles (800 km) with both engines, for less-frequent fill-ups

Design details
Designed features Chevy's signature global face - the two-tier grille and prominent gold Bowtie insignia. Strong fender shapes, a distinctive premium roofline, wraparound headlamps and dual round taillamps are additional elements that define Equinox as a true Chevrolet, Peper said.

Design features:
    * A multi-dimensional hood and wraparound rear side glass and a wheels-at-the-corners stance
    * Improved aerodynamic performance through a number of carefully designed exterior features, including moving the base of the windshield forward approximately three inches (75 mm) for a sleeker profile

Chevy Equinox's rocker panels are integrated into the doors to make it easier to get in and out of the vehicle. They narrow the area over which a passenger must step, offering protection for pant legs that could brush against dirty rockers. Also, the select use of chrome trim and flush-fitting "exposed-edge" windshield and rear glass reinforce Equinox's build quality and reduce wind noise.

Dimensionally, the Chevrolet Equinox rides on the same 112.5-inch wheelbase (2,857 mm), but is about one inch (25 mm) shorter in length and an inch wider. It also has a wider front track that enhances the ride and handling.

The interior amenities, storage and flexibility
Inside, the Chevrolet Equinox features attention to detail - including a number of storage bins, such as an oversized glove box; a closed storage bin in the instrument panel above the center stack; and closed storage under the center armrest large enough for a laptop computer.

A "floating" center stack houses a multitude of ergonomic comfort and convenience controls. Contemporary, ice-blue ambient lighting - featured within and surrounding the center stack, encircling the center-console cupholders and within the door pull cups - accentuates the cabin. The front and rear seats, which include cloth and uplevel, perforated leather-trimmed offerings, were developed to help deliver best-in-class comfort.

The new Equinox retains its MultiFlex rear seat capability, which allows the seat to be moved fore or aft nearly eight inches (203 mm), for the best rear legroom in its class. With the 60/40-split-back rear seat moved all the way forward, the cargo area offers 31.4 cubic feet (889 liters) of storage.

The Chevy Equinox's cabin is notable for its quietness. Noise-absorbing elements are built into the chassis, engine compartment and interior.
Convenience, infotainment and connectivity
The variety of technologies are integrated in the Chevrolet Equinox, such as an available seven-inch touch-screen navigation system.

  • DVD-based rear-seat entertainment system with two independent screens to enable DVD viewing on one and gaming on the other

Chassis and suspension
The Equinox is built on a body-integral structure with single-piece body side stampings and targeted applications of high-strength steel. Those elements form the foundation of a solid, quiet driving experience, according to Peper. The strong structure enabled engineers to tune the four-wheel-independent suspension system for greater control and driver feedback.

The new Chevrolet Camaro and the blockbuster Transformers movies can now combine their love of the car and the films with the Chevrolet Camaro Transformers Special Edition announced today at Comic-Con in San Diego.

Features such as an EPA-rated 29 highway mpg on the V6-powered Chevrolet Camaro, Bluetooth phone connectivity, USB connectivity, XM Satellite Radio and OnStar combined with Transformers design cues add to the car's status as a 21st century sports car.

While the aggressive styling of the Chevrolet Camaro is unmistakable, true Transformers fans will notice some of the unique, but subtle features of the Chevrolet Camaro Transformers Special Edition.

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro Transformers Special Edition:
  •  Autobot shield on the driver and passenger side panels
  • Autobot shield on each of the four wheel's center cap
  • Autobot shield embroidered on interior center console
  • "Transformers" logo on driver and passenger doors' sill plates
  • "Transformers" logo embedded into the hood rally stripes
  • High-gloss black center rally stripe package
  • Manufacturer's suggested retail price of package: $995
Dealers are now taking orders for this car. Customers can order the Transformers Special Edition as either a Rally Yellow LT or SS model. The optional RS appearance package can also be added.

The V6-powered Chevrolet Camaro uses a 3.6L engine with variable valve timing to optimize performance and fuel economy. It is SAE-certified at 304 horsepower (227 kW) and 273 lb.-ft. of torque (370 Nm). A six-speed manual transmission is standard with the 3.6L engine; a Hydra-Matic 6L50 electronically controlled six-speed automatic, with TAPshift control, is available.

The high-performance Chevrolet Camaro SS is equipped with a powerful 6.2L V-8, with a choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Manual transmission-equipped models receive the LS3 engine, SAE-certified at 426 horsepower (318 kW) and 420 lb.-ft. of torque (569 Nm). It is paired with a TR6060 six-speed transmission.

A new, L99 V-8 engine is used on automatic transmission-equipped SS models. It is based on the LS3, but also includes GM's fuel-saving Active Fuel Management feature. It is SAE-certified at 400 horsepower (298 kW) and 410 lb.-ft. of torque (556 Nm). It is matched with a Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed transmission that helps delivers an EPA-estimated 25 mpg on the highway.
